A Heartbroken Widow Goose Finds Love Again Just In Time For Valentine’s Day
When geese bond, they bond for life. Sadly, life doesn’t always work out the way we want it to and sometimes a goose may be ripped apart from its partner prematurely.
That happened to a pair of geese living at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa. Blossom and Bud were a bonded pair of geese who spent their days together by the cemetery’s lake.
The Riverside Cemetery regularly shared updates and photos about the adorable geese duo on Facebook, but in August of 2022, the cemetery shared a heartbreaking update: Bud had passed away.
The cemetery shared that Bud’s remains were found on August 4th, after seemingly being mauled by another animal.
They initally said they weren’t going to bring another goose to the cemetery for Blossom, but after months passed, they realized that would be the right thing to do.
On February 10th, 2023, the cemetery shared an ad of sorts, asking if there were any geese that might be interested in bonding with Blososm.
They wrote: “Lonely, widowed domestic goose seeks life partner for companionship and occasional shenanigans. Come share life with me at Riverside Cemetery, where you’ll enjoy swimming in the lovely lake, good food, numerous friends, and peeking in the door of the office building at the strange but kind humans there, who feed us lots of goodies. I’m youthful, adventurous and lively, and I’ve been told I’m beautiful.”
“Interested parties should ask a human to contact Riverside Cemetery…,” they added.
Thankfully, it wasn’t long before someone reached out with a goose named Frankie. Ironically, Frankie made his way to the cemetery on Valeninte’s Day!
The cemetery posted a video of the duo on Facebook, writing: “A stroll beside the lake this afternoon, followed by another swim. They never left each other’s sides today. We’re so happy for Blossom, and for Frankie, too!”
