A “pet” lion was confiscated from a private residence after authorities tracked it down thanks to a viral TikTok video.

According to VICE, videos of the lion went viral on TikTok, which showed it being cuddled and bathed in a private residence in Cambodia.

Authorities were notified of the video and raided a house in Phnom Penh to rescue the lion, who had been defanged, declawed, and illegally smuggled into the country to be illegally kept as a pet.

According to The Guardian, officers found the 18-month-old male lion pacing around inside with a collar on when they arrived at the residence.

They used a tranquilizer dart and a metal crate to remove the lion from the custody of the Chinese national. Wildlife Alliance shared that the 150+ pound animal was transported to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, where it would be “cared for appropriately.”
