A “pet” lion was confiscated from a private residence after authorities tracked it down thanks to a viral TikTok video.
According to VICE, videos of the lion went viral on TikTok, which showed it being cuddled and bathed in a private residence in Cambodia.
Authorities were notified of the video and raided a house in Phnom Penh to rescue the lion, who had been defanged, declawed, and illegally smuggled into the country to be illegally kept as a pet.
Wildlife Alliance reported that a Tweet of the lion in a backyard had been making its way around social media, which further helped identify which house was living at.

According to The Guardian, officers found the 18-month-old male lion pacing around inside with a collar on when they arrived at the residence.
They used a tranquilizer dart and a metal crate to remove the lion from the custody of the Chinese national. Wildlife Alliance shared that the 150+ pound animal was transported to the Phnom Tamao Wildlife Rescue Centre, where it would be “cared for appropriately.”
It’s illegal to own and raise wildlife at home in Cambodia, but it’s unclear if the former owner of the lion will face any legal repercussions.Whizzco
