Three Amazing Amazonian Avians

3. The scarlet macaw is one of the Amazon’s most colorful birds. Their bright red plumage is accented by blue flight feathers, and watching them soar is quite a sight to behold.

Like many parrots, the scarlet macaw must supplement its food with a clay salt lick, which helps neutralize the toxins present in the berries that make up much of the bird’s diet.

Watch the video to see these amazing birds make their way through their Amazonian home to partake in some medicinal clay licks.

These are just a few of the incredible plethora of birds that inhabit the Amazon, many of which haven’t yet been discovered. The Amazon Rainforest is the most biologically diverse area on the planet, but this amazing ecosystem is in danger of disappearing due to deforestation and agricultural development, among other problems like drought and forest fires.
