The Lady in Red

There are few insects that could be described as “pretty,” but the seven-spotted red ladybug, with its colorful elytra and black spots, is certainly one of the more attractive species. Its bright color serves to convince predators that it will leave a bad taste in their mouth and, as a lucky coincidence, also protects them from humans (who tend to make a wish and send them on their way, rather than the grim alternative).
