The Elusive Elegant Trogan

Elegant trogons have gorgeous coloring that make them highly sought after by bird watchers. Adding to their appeal is their rarity; only about 200 of them migrate to the U.S. every year, and they only stay in the Sky Islands of Arizona — and even then it’s only for the summer. Then they head back down to the southern hemisphere for the winter. Despite their bright feathers, they can be difficult to find as they are generally quiet, lethargic birds. The easiest way to find elegant trogons is to locate a tree cavity where they are nesting, perhaps by following their very distinctive calls.

Take a look at the video, where a representative from the Arizona Game and Fish Department gives us more in-depth information about this elegant bird.
