Bumblebee Becomes BFFs With Teen Who Saved Its Life

A teenager struck up the unlikeliest friendship after rescuing a bumblebee from the middle of a road.

While it’s not unheard of for different species to become BFFs, like with dogs and cats, it’s much rarer to hear of a relationship blooming between a species and an insect.

However, that’s exactly what happened to 13-year-old Lacey Shillinglaw from the Uk. According to SWNS, she was walking her dog with her mum, Laura, when she noticed a bee lying in the road.

Rather than walk past it, she did the kind thing and scooped it up to move it out of harm’s way.

While Lacey tried to leave the little bee on a flower in a nearby park, the bee refused to stay there. Instead, it followed Lacey and proceeded to crawl all over her.

After around an hour at the park, it was time to head home and the bee refused to stay behind. It clung to Lacey, hanging around her glasses, hair, and shoulders.

The persistent bee, who Lacey named Betty, was so adamant about staying with the heroic teen that it even went to bed with her!

According to SWNS, Lacey said, “I’m so happy and I just love spending my time with her. She’s so fluffy and I love our friendship.”

Lacey feeds Betty bits of food, sugar water, honey, and jam. Of course, no one is stopping Betty from going out and getting some nectar or returning home, either, but the bee prefers to stay.

Betty sleeps in a little bot beside Lacey at night. It doesn’t have a lid, but the insect stays in it through the night.

The rest of the family, Mom, Dad, and two siblings, can barely believe it, but they’re happy to have their latest house guest. Betty, however, is more hesitant to be around them and prefers to stick close to Lacey.

It’s hard to believe that such a bond could be formed between such unlikely pals, but it seems love and friendship know no bounds.

Bumblebees live, on average, 28 days, so while their friendship will be short, it’s something Lacey may remember forever.
