Imagine that! To think, this animal came from a family of omnivores who eat eggs and smaller animals if there’s a necessity.

But primarily, the diet of these red pandas is bamboo, just like their relatives the Giant Pandas. They also share the same pseudo-thumb that they use for holding onto bamboo while enjoying a meal. However, red pandas have their own unique taxonomic family.

Also, when it comes to size, red pandas are only slightly bigger than pet cats. It’s their ringed tails that make them look bigger, a feature that they share with raccoons, to whom they are also related. A red panda may grow from 20 up to 26 inches, while its tail may grow from 12 up to 20 inches long.

Yes, red pandas have long and bushy tails, which are very useful in keeping their balance. Do you know that red pandas are fantastic acrobats? They love climbing trees and even sleeping on branches.

Come winter, red pandas use their long, bushy tails to keep themselves warm. No, these pandas do not hibernate. They just go dormant, cozily curl up, and wrap their bodies with their tails to protect them from the cold.
