10 Random Acts of Kindness You Can Do For Animals

February 17 is Random Acts of Kindness Day, which encourages people to show kindness to others.

As Joaquin Phoenix said, “It takes nothing away from a human to be kind to an animal.” Actually, showing kindness to others will make you feel better and do good at the same time. It’s a win-win.

Animals make us smile with their zest for life, crazy antics, and beauty. They give so much and ask so little in return, so let’s show kindness today (Random Acts of Kindness Day) and every day to animals.

Check out some easy ways you can give back and help animals below.

Foster

Animal shelters are always in need of loving foster homes for cats, dogs, bunnies, and other furry animals. Shelter pets can show their true personalities when they are in a home environment. Shelters typically provide everything you will need to care for the pet so all you need to do is shower them with the love and attention they deserve.

If you have some spare time, consider volunteering to walk dogs, clean kennels, or help with an adoption event at your local shelter. Many shelters across the country are short-staffed and would love a helping hand.

Pick Up Litter

Litter is dangerous to birds, turtles, and many other animals who mistake it for food or become entangled in it. Spend an afternoon or an hour picking up trash at your local beach, park, or neighborhood.

Give back to community cats by donating food, helping with a TNR program, and providing sturdy cat houses.

Feral cats have a hard time finding what they need to survive on a regular basis. Watch a video and answer a question to help provide food and then see how you can help even more by purchasing a care pack.

Choose Cruelty-Free Products

Using animals for cosmetic or any other kind of testing is cruel and unnecessary. A great way to help rabbits and other animals is to only purchase products that are cruelty-free, which means it was not tested on animals.

Be sure to check this list to see which brands are cruelty-free and share it with your friends and family.

Adopt
