Georgia College Library Closes After Owl Moves In Temporarily

A college library in Decatur, Georgia closed for a few days after an unexpected guest made an appearance.

The Agnes Scott College’s McCain Library posted about the bird on Twitter on February 7th, showing the bird perched on the rafter.

“…do you think we could get our library back? Asking for a friend,” they said.

According to WSBV-TV, the owl flew down the library’s chimney before perchign in the rafters.

Per the outlet, the library director, Elizabeth Bagley, said that while the barred owl isn’t their first bird resident it is their first owl.

To protect both the owl and the students, the library made the decision to shut down until a professional could come in and safely remove the bird.

Thankfully, it didn’t take too long before a falconer was able to shoo the bird from the building and release it back to its natural habitat.

The library shared a video of the bird’s release on Twitter, with the caption:

“We solved our four-day hoo-dun-it. In the library with a net. Yes, our feathery friend was released back into its natural habitat on Friday afternoon. Thank you to everyone for your thoughts and jokes during this flying time.”

Hopefully the owl didn’t leave too much of a mess in the library!
