Sometimes we can all use a little bit of help from strangers – even animals! A prime example of this is a little orphaned baby squirrel named Samuel.
He was in desperate need of a little help in order to survive, and luckily for Samuel, he was about to be found by a family of humans. A woman, Chrissy, and her family live in Langley, BC. That is where they found little Samuel and decided to nurse him back to health.
At the time of his rescue, Samuel was only about four to six weeks old. He became orphaned after he was snatched out of his nest by a cat in the neighborhood.
Luckily, Chrissy and her family were there to rescue him. She nursed the little baby squirrel back to health before getting in touch with the Critter Care Wildlife for more assistance on how to care for him.
As Chrissy explained, “When I found him I called the wild life rescue organization called critter care and they gave me great advice and helped me with feeding and a wound he had. Not a ton of risk with him. Similar to a cat.”
While the squirrel might have been a wild animal, he still managed to bond with Chrissy. Once he was released back into the wild, he still is a frequent visitor to Chrissy and her family. He loves to hangout and play with her. While the Reddit video might be quite precious, his habits are actually not unusual. As Chrissy has shared, Samuel’s habit of returning is something that is pretty common amongst squirrels.
Chrissy shared on Reddit, “There are several documented cases orphaned squirrels have been raised by humans and then, released into the wild where they do seem to remember their human hosts. In some cases, they even return to reconnect with their human saviors.”
