Sweet Canada Lynx Goes Viral For Acting Like A “Big Baby”

A sweet and gentle Canada Lynx has been winning the hearts of people around the world after a video of him went viral. In the video, you can see him asking for scratches and love as his caretaker settles in to feed him.

Wildlife educator Bernie has been caring for Max the Canada Lynx since he was barely 2 months old back in 2011. While Max is definitely a wild animal, the bond he’s formed with Bernie is really something special and you can see that in the viral clip.

Bernie shared the video on YouTube, saying: “Max Canada Lynx, the educational animal ambassador takes a moment to get some good scratchin’ before he sits down for his meal.”

Bernie added, “This video is NOT taken in my home but where he has an indoor enclosure. This is Max’s rug with his fur, straw and other scents that he loves. He doesn’t like the vacuum. Max also has outdoor housing where he spends most of his time.”

Since being shared, the video has amassed more than 22 million views and counting! People can’t get enough of how cute Max is, and also how neat it is to see a wild cat acting so similar to a domesticated house cat.

According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the Canada lynx (Lynx canadensis) can weigh up to 30 pounds and are found across Canada and Alaska.

While generally not kept as pets, Bernie was able to acquire Max from Space Farms Zoo and Museum in New Jersey where he was born in captivity and deemed unsuitable for release into the wild.

Max now works with Bernie as an educational animal ambassador to help spread the word about the Canada lynx and all they have to offer in hopes of progressing conservation efforts. Considering it’s still legal to trap and kill the Canada lynx in Canada and Alaska, the law has a long way to come to protect this beautiful species!
