Watch Geese March In Parades Across Europe

Parades are an occurrence worldwide. They are usually a celebration of some kind, and it all depends on that city’s local history, traditions, culture, etc.

You can expect to see a lot of colors and different attractions within a parade, and sometimes even animals make an appearance.

Usually, animals in parades are limited to horses or perhaps some shelter pets. They tend to be the commonly used animals in parades as they have a variety of functions from horse-drawn carriages to mounted police, etc. But you’d hardly expect to see geese as being part of a parade.

But today is the day that you get your mind blown with a group of very well-trained Toulouse geese who were active members of a parade in the city of Odense, Denmark.

The street marching geese might seem like an oddity, but they’re an annual part of the parade that occurs every year during the holiday season.

As the Ganzefanfare website explains, this tradition is one that dates back a while – and spans across Europe as well!

(translated) “A maitre tambour, a drummer and a dozen pedigree toulouser geese are the superb ingredients of this magnificent act. …Based on the age-old tradition of goose herding it is the roguish, cheerful and surely the most playful note at your festival, street or theater, fair or exhibation, shopping mall or first stone…….”

Like it has been stated, this isn’t a once-off occurrence. These festivals can happen in other European cities and parades, such as the similar parade in Belgium. During the Gentse Feesten, or Ghent Festival, geese can also be seen as a march of the parade’s attractions.

And there is also a similar parade that happens in the Dutch town of Geleen.
