While I don’t think I’d ever want to have a bird as a pet, I won’t deny that they can be quite fascinating.
For me, hummingbirds are some of the coolest birds in the bird world. They might be small, but they are insanely fast. Not to mention, their feathers are such pretty colors.
I used to love watching the hummingbirds that would come around the garden at my parents’ house. But for one man, he got a very up-close and personal experience with a hummingbird.
Sammy was walking down the sidewalk when he happened upon a really small bump on the walkway. Upon close inspection, he realized it was a little baby hummingbird. Given that the bird was still a baby, she was struggling to fly.
Knowing that she was vulnerable to predators if she was left on the road, Sammy decided to take the little bird home with him. He was determined to help nurse her back to health.
He ended up naming the little hummingbird Flit. And little Flit was a fighter. She came back strong, and soon Sammy found himself with a new dilemma on his hands: teaching the young bird how to fly.
Flit was quite food motivated, so Sammy got the great idea to dangle a syringe of food in front of her in order to encourage the little bird to fly. And it worked!
In order to help the tiny hummingbird to get a better set of survival skills, Sammy wrapped her syringe in red paper in order to help her distinguish what she was needs to look for in the wild: flowers!
Once she was fully strong and able to fly on her own, the only thing left was to let her loose in order to find her way in the world.
