Can you spot the python hiding?

An ordinary photo of a few potted plants in a greenhouse has been circulating on the internet recently… because there’s actually a giant python hiding in plain sight!

The photo looks like a totally run-of-the-mill shot of some potted plants in a greenhouse, but an unexpected guest also makes an appearance. Just goes to show, you can never take anything at face value!

The photo, which was put online by Australian snake wrangling company Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers, has been making major waves online.

The snake catchers posted the picture to highlight how easy it is for a treacherous snake to hide in plain sight. But the picture went viral because it’s such a baffling optical illusion.

Like the illusion of a cell phone blending into a carpet, it’s pretty much impossible to spot the snake, unless you look very, very carefully.

Take a close look at the photos below and see if you can find the python hiding in this picture!

The photo, first posted to the Facebook page Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers, has been making major waves on the internet.

Hundreds of people weighed in with comments and shares. More than 1,000 people reacted to it online!

People are responding to two things: 1) How creepy it is that there’s snake hiding in plain sight, and 2) where the heck is the snake anyway?

The Snake Catchers posted the photo along with this caption:

“BELIEVE IT OR NOT! ….. there is actually a 1.8m [6 foot] Carpet Python curled up behind one of these pots! Goes to show how well they can hide. If you can see it, try sharing this on your walls and see if your friends can see it too!”

Look, we’ll just be the first to admit: we had no clue where the python was.

Even with a zoomed in look at all of the plants, it’s really hard to spot this crafty reptile.

There are six potted succulents featured here. They all have green and brown tones that provide perfect camouflage for a creative snake.

On top of that, even a six-foot-long snake can curl up very tightly and hide in a small space.

Here’s our final hint. Can you see him now?

The snake has carefully curled himself up into a coil behind this large succulent. You can just barely catch a glimpse of his scales between the leaves.

If you’re still struggling to see the well-hidden creature, the snake catchers carefully circled his hiding spot. You have to look really closely to see him hiding inside!

It’s impressive that he managed to tuck himself into such a tiny spot, though it’s also pretty scary that a predator could hide in such an obvious spot!

The carpet python is an especially flexible snake. It isn’t native to the U.S., but it never hurts to be on the lookout!

Snakes of all shapes and sizes — including venomous ones — love finding comfy and secure spots for their naps. You don’t want to be the one who accidentally disturbs them!
