Hospital Calls For Help After Paitent Brings In Deadly Snake
A hospital in Queensland, Australia had to call a snake catcher for help when a patient walked in with a deadly snake in a jar.
Hervey Bay Snake Catchers shared about the incident in a Facebook post, explaining that they received a “hectic call out tonight from the hospital.”
Apparently, a man accidentally stepped on the snake and was bitten. He managed to capture it before heading to the hospital so the staff would know what bit him.
The snake catchers explained, “We were told over the phone that it was a juvenile red bellied black. Being late at night our suspicions were that it wasn’t a small red belly but a smaller and much more venomous species, the eastern small eyed snake. Upon arrival our suspicions were confirmed, it was a small eyed!”
They went on to say that the Eastern small-eyed snakes are easily mistaken for juvenile red-bellied black snakes due to similar coloration. The Eastern small-eyed snakes, however, pack a more venomous and deadly bite.
They explained, “Eastern small eyed snakes are often mistaken for juvenile red bellied black snakes due to their dark grey colouration with a deep pink belly. Eastern small eyed snakes are highly venomous and bites can be fatal if untreated.”
“Thankfully he’s done the right thing and gone to hospital. With the correct first aid and medical treatment, it’s actually hard to die from snake bite these days so old mate should hopefully be just fine. We wish him all the best,” they ended the post with.
