Nature is such an amazing thing. We know that some animals in the wild are born with camouflage, and we don’t always get to see just how impressive that camouflage can be.
At least, not until a photograph surfaces that shows off just how incredible a wild animal’s natural camouflage can be.
Back in 2019, there were hundreds of Twitter users who were left completely stumped by a particular picture. Check it out below:
Have a look at the below picture.

Undoubtedly, this was a major eye test for a lot of people out there. In fact, when the image was shared to Twitter, the person who posted it – Bella Lack – wrote in the caption, “Someone just sent this to me and asked me to find the leopard. I was convinced it was a joke… until I found the leopard. Can you spot it?”
Not a lot of people could. But given how much patience the picture required to find the leopard, it was not surprising that the photo gained a lot of attention from fellow confused users. The leopard camouflage picture amassed over 23K likes as well as nearly 10K retweets – most from those unable to find the hidden animal.
In addition to the attention it was receiving, the photo also gained numerous comments. One person joked that it took them long enough to spot the leopard that had they been in the wild, they probably would’ve gotten pounced on. While someone else said, “Someone please pm me the answer. I’m gonna go crazy if I stare at this dirt anymore.”
If you saw the image and just saw dirt, you’re not alone. In fact, there were a lot of other people who shared helpful hints and photos with spoilers that pointed out the well-camouflaged feline. Given how great they can blend in with their surroundings, it is little wonder that these big cats can sneak up on their unsuspecting prey and have the complete element of surprise on their side.
But even more interesting is the fact that, as the BBC reports, their spots can actually be either round or square depending on their environment. Also, these animals have evolved so that their markings are either darker or lighter depending on their surroundings, such as forests or mountain terrains. Pretty cool, right?
