Blooming Fields Of Flowers In Italy Are A Sight To Behold

2020 did not exactly turn out to be the year of travel that most of us were hoping for. Due to the coronavirus and travel restrictions, many people have been kept at home. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have the opportunity to see the world around us, and social media gives us that chance.

For those that love flowers, there is an event taking place known as the “La Fioritura.” It happens on an annual basis in the Italian village of Castelluccio and is a celebration of the landscape and all of the beautiful flowers that are popping at this time of year.

Castelluccio is the center of some of the most beautiful hills and meadows that you could possibly see. At other times of the year, it is lush and green, but thanks to flowers, it turns into a sea of colors. The locals are reporting that the colors are better than ever this year, perhaps because pollution is lower due to the decline in tourists.

You can’t really put a specific date on the bloom of these flowers, but they tend to be visible from late in May through the month of July. As the flowers bloom, the landscape is painted and it’s little wonder why it is celebrated by the locals.

There is even an official feast of the fiorita that occurs on the third and fourth Sundays of June. Even though they celebrated at that time, it continues to be a beautiful event for weeks afterward.

There are many different types of flowers that bloom in the area, adding to the beauty. Included in those flowers are daffodils, poppies, gentianellas, violets, buttercups, purple eugenias, clovers, shamrocks, and much more.

Americans may not be able to visit the area (or Italy in general) at this time, but there is still plenty to see online. There is even an official website of the village where you can see pictures of these flowers in full bloom.
