Enhydro Agates And Crystals Are Filled With Ancient Water

People around the world are fascinated and drawn to precious stones, like gems and crystals. Even less precious stones hold a special place for many people, like agates.

Growing up on the coast, I spent hours as a kid sifting through rocks in search of agates. Each little pebble that looked promising would get held up to the sun and if it was see-through, we’d set it aside as a special treasure – an agate.

Despite all the time I spent agate hunting, I never knew to look for the extra specials agates: enhydro agates.

Those agates aren’t solid like the others, but instead, they’re full of water!

shared the video on YouTube, writing:

“These Enhydro Agates contain water that was trapped inside as they formed long ago in Brazil. They have been polished on the outer surface to reveal the water inside.”

It’s really something special!

It’s not just agates that can fill with water either, but crystals do too. As crystals develop, liquid can become trapped inside. It can typically be identified as an air bubble will become visible.

For crystals and agates, which aren’t porous like geodes, the water is trapped during the formation and is, therefore, as old as the stone, itself! Pretty crazy, right?

Rocks for the Spirit shared another video with more incredible footage of enhydro crystals and you can see all different kinds, from raw-looking stones to those that’ve been polished and shaped to show off the water inside!

It’s amazing to see how every piece is unique, but they all share the incredible trait of holding water. Some even have bubbles that you can visibly see moving inside!

Selenite, aquamarine, quartz, and halite are among the many crystals that can hold fluid inside.
