Elon Musk Donates $1 Million To Plant One Million Trees

Elon Musk – the Tesla and SpaceX CEO – has just donated $1 million to #TeamTrees in order to plant one million trees.

The project was created by YouTubers MrBeast (Jimmy Donaldson) and Mark Rober. It began trending after a MrBeast tweeted that he’ll plant 20 million trees if he hits 20 million YouTube subscribers.

As a result, MrBeast and a few other fellow vloggers partnered together in order to make it a reality by aiming to raise $20 million for the Arbor Day Foundation.

So far, several famous people have donated towards the cause, those being Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, musician Alan Walker, as well as MrBeast himself. So far, the donations are around $7,922,669.

Of course, the biggest contribution came from Elon Musk, who’s shocking $1 million towards tree planting came seemingly out of the blue.

Musk initially showed interest in the project after questioning what type of trees were going to be planted as part of the fundraising effort.

Marques Brownlee (MKBHD) responded to Musk, informing him that the trees would be planted “in a forest of high need,” to which Musk responded that the project was “legit.”

Musk made the announcement of his donation on the #teamtrees website, which turns out to be the biggest donation.

According to MrBeast himself, the 20 million trees will be planted across every continent in the world, minus Antarctica.

Elon Musk has joked that the reason he’s donating to the trees is “for Treebeard.” For those that don’t know, Treebeard is an Ent – a talking tree from Middle Earth. The Lord of the Rings character was described by Gandalf as “the oldest living thing that still walks beneath the Sun upon this Middle-earth.”

While there is still a ways to go before the donation target is met, YouTube has said that it’ll match the next million dollar donation through the donation button on the video streaming site.

Overall, it’s a great initiative and we are so hopeful that it will get there. And if you can donate, go for it. For Treebeard!
