Eddie the pet tortoise has been through a lot, but he doesn’t let life’s challenges bring him down.
In an interview with Fox News, Eddie’s owner, Emma McNicholas, explained that she’d taken Eddie in around a year ago after his owner decided they couldn’t care for him any longer.
Sadly, that wasn’t the first time Eddie had been given up either. Emma decided to be Eddie’s final home, a place he could get comfortable and have a family who loves him.
Things were going well for the family until Eddie escaped his enclosure one night. The little tortoise made his way out of the safety of his enclosure and into the yard of their home in Warrington, England.
It wasn’t until the morning that Emma realized Eddie had escaped into the yard and when she went to pick him up, she found he was “covered in blood.”
They rushed Eddie to an exotic veterinarian who thought he was likely attacked by a rat. Unfortunately, his front legs couldn’t be saved.
The vet attached an “axle” of sorts to the bottom of Eddie’s shell so his owners could hook wheels to it when needed.
Emma uses the axle to set Eddie with various wheels that he can use indoors, outdoors, and just about everywhere he goes!
Emma regularly shares photos and videos of little Eddie on social media. Check out the photos below:
Eddie hasn’t let his lack of front legs slow him down. Thanks to his new wheels, he’s able to roll around the yard and house as fast as ever.
