HONK! Massive Flock Of Ducks In Viral Video Circles A Vehicle, And People Are Asking Why

“One of us! One of us!”

A bizarre video was posted on the r/Damnthatsinteresting subreddit last month, and, miraculously, there is still no explanation of what is happening in the post.

Usually, when people post something that’s hard to explain, one champion emerges from the comment section to explain whatever it is that needs explaining. This time though, it looks like the internet is satisfied with just piling on their humor under this particular post.

Believe it or not, ducks are beloved by the internet. They offer an innocently cute energy that people seem to love, so maybe that’s the reason why people don’t seem to mind this weird behavior that’s being displayed in the viral video?

I won’t keep you all in suspense much longer, so here’s the post.

The post already has over 66k upvotes, and it hasn’t even been a full month since it has been posted. From more than 2k comments, I haven’t seen one explanation about why the ducks are behaving this way. Well, at least from what I’ve seen so far.

One comment jokes about how the queen duck is trapped inside the white car; that’s why the rest of the duck “hive” is circling the vehicle, trying to save their queen. Another user negates the queen duck theory and says that what the ducks were doing is called the “death spiral,” because they just lost the scent of their nest, but they corrected themselves at the end of their comment and admitted, “oh wait, that’s ants lol.”

I kid you not, I’m almost halfway down the page, and almost all of them are jokes and puns. I’ve made a separate search on the possible explanation for this but came up with no results.

The only comment that offers some rational explanation of what’s going on is from a response to the death spiral theory.

The comment said, “This is similar. Ducks simply follow whatever duck is in front of them, so if they accidentally start a circle, it just keeps going. They won’t die, though. One of the ducks will get hungry or bored and wander away from the group, and the rest will follow.”

But for now, like me on my journey to finding an answer, the ducks are simply… spiraling out of control.
