A drone captured the heart-stopping moment a large bull shark swam among unsuspecting beachgoers who had no idea the shark was near.
The footage captured by Blake and Robert Russ (@danjarussphotography) who were positioned around a half-mile away from the shark on Daytona Beach, Florida.
They weren’t away the shark was in the water when they sent the drone up, but they managed to capture some incredible footage of it swimming in the shallow water of the surf!
In the video, you can see the shark approaching people in chest-deep water and coming within feet of them before stopping and turning around. The swimmers seemingly had no idea that danger was so close!
Blake shared the video on Instagram, writing:
“Fun watching this Bull Shark swim up and down the beach. It swam right up to dozens of people then turned away only a few feet from them. No one even noticed it was there. Here’s a tip if a drone is flying over you in the ocean look down around you not up at the drone. There’s probably something more special than you nearby.”
Noted. If we see a drone while swimming in the ocean, we’re just going to promptly exit the water – just in case.
In an interview with Fox 35 Orlando, Robert said: “It was unnerving at moments to watch this since there are quite a few people bitten here, but [it] confirms they are generally unintentional bites.”
According to the University of Florida, unprovoked shark bites in the United States made up 64 percent of the global total – a staggering number!
Thankfully, no one was injured during the drone shot captured by the Russ brothers.
