Diver Helps Save Pufferfish With Plastic Stuck In Its Mouth

The environmental crisis is at a tipping point. It’s no longer a case that one can bury their head in the sand – climate change is real, and if we don’t do something about it, our planet won’t survive much longer.

But feeling the impact the most of the climate crisis is the other animal species that inhabit the Earth along with us humans.

For years now, our oceans and water systems have become affected by pollution, and it’s the poor animals who are suffering the consequences.

One diver who was swimming off the coast of Tasartico in Spain managed to save one pufferfish before things went wrong.

The pufferfish had what appeared to be a plastic cap from a soda bottle stuck to its mouth. The plastic had embedded itself into the flesh of the fish, and it looked almost like a lip ring.

As the diver explained, “I came across this fish with a plastic piercing, it surely prevented him from eating well.”

The diver then did what he knew was the right thing, and helped the fish ditch the plastic piercing. Keep in mind, pufferfish are venomous, so the diver did his best to handle the fish with care. He was as gentle as possible with the fish as he worked quickly to tug and pull on the plastic cap until it was loose enough for him to remove, giving the fish back the full use of his mouth.

The fish did end up puffing up, but it didn’t stop the man from continuing to help.

Once the diver had removed the plastic ring, the pufferfish simply swam on his way back out to the deep blue sea.
