A new wildlife documentary by producer Sharon Negri is challenging deep-seated myths about cougars, showing them to be affectionate, playful, and sociable animals rather than the solitary, heartless predators of popular portrayal. Negri’s “The Secret Life of Mountain Lions” follows a mother cougar and her three kittens as she teaches them to hunt and survive in a challenging Wyoming climate.
Interesting facts about the mighty mountain lion: It is estimated that the mountain lion population ranges from 30,000 to 35,000 in the Western United States of America. The Florida panther subspecies is endangered — where researches estimate the population to be fewer than 100 individuals. They are powerful leapers! They can leap distances up to 40 feet and up to 15 feet high!
