Celebrated conservationist Ian Redmond had a close brush with death in Kenya’s Mount Elgon Forest Reserve when an elephant from the herd he was filming attacked him.
The attack happened when Redmond’s team was trailing the herd while conducting a population count for the charity Born Free International. The male elephant charged at Redmond and threw him to the ground but was quickly chased away by the forest rangers.
Elephant attacks on humans are rare; this elephant apparently acted out because it was stressed about human activity in its territory. It is worth noting that no animals were harmed and the individual injured in the attack suffered no serious injuries.
