The Spanish moon moth is a little bit more subtle in its appearance, with soft, light green wings and reddish-brown veins. Yet this moth is anything but soft: it survives the winter in its cocoon, and its diet primarily consists of pine needles.

Not all of the prettiest insects have wings. The orchid praying mantis has petals — or at least it looks like it does. This insect, found in the jungles of Southeast Asia, is similar in appearance to orchid flowers. The mantis uses its petal-like limbs to attract and capture its unsuspecting prey.

As evidenced by the orchid praying mantis, beautiful insects are not limited to those with wings. The turquoise shield bugs have bright turquoise-and-orange bodies. The peacock spider has a soft body that boasts colors including bright yellow, orange, red, and turquoise. Beauty can certainly lie in the most unexpected of places.
