Cockatiel Plays Peek-A-Boo With Baby Birds

It’s no secret that parrots can mimic human speech, but it never gets old to hear!

It becomes even more adorable when a bird does more than mimic speech, but mimics a whole human behavior, like playing a game.

An adorable video captured the moment a sweet cockatiel did just that when he played a game of “Peek-A-Boo” with a nest of baby chicks.

The game was complete with the bird saying, “Peek-a-boo” and moving his head in and out of view.

In the video, you can see three little chicks in a ceramic bowl at their home in Turkey. A grown cockatiel is standing outside the nest bowl, and begins to play the game!

It’s so sweet, and it seems the little chicks are mesmerized by the game

What makes this extra special is the fact that cockatiels don’t pick up on human speech as much as larger parrot species. Even so, they have quite a gift for language, and the video shows that.

The National Audubon Society explains that parrots are vocal learners, so they grasp sounds by hearing them and repeating them. Parrots mimic human speech, in particular, in an attempt to fit into their surroundings.

It seems whoever owned the parrot in the video must have played peek-a-boo a lot for the little bird to catch on! Maybe they had a small child around, or maybe they played it with their birds (we’re not judging).
