This Chipmunk Is Going Absolutely Nuts Preparing For Winter

Every autumn in the eastern part of the United States of America, over 26 billion oak trees change colors and drop acorns and chipmunks scurry to gather the precious cargo for the long winter ahead. Gathering them certainly requires dedication. By late fall, a chipmunk will have collected about 6,000 nuts! During the winter, the chipmunk will be sending most of its time sleeping and the rest of its time eating. he will need every little bit to survive the cold long winter. To accommodate as many nuts as possible during each trip, their cheeks will stretch up to three times the size of their heads, making trips less frequent and gathering more efficient.

Watch as a particularly industrious chipmunk stuffs his cheeks in preparation for winter, while a lazy chipmunk opponent tries to mooch off of his hard work! That little rascal!
