Camera-Trapped: The Rare Sun Bear

Over the past thirty years, deforestation and poaching in southeast Asia has caused the sun bear population to drop by 30%, making them the second-most endangered bear on earth, after the panda bear.

Besides their low numbers, sun bears tend to be solitary and elusive, which means that footage of them in the wild is hard to come by.

Wildlife filmmakers from the Smithsonian Institution and the BBC were able to capture some rare footage of a Burmese sun bear with the help of a motion-sensor camera — watch the video.
